Yvonne Armstrong

President

Yvonne is Senior Executive Vice President of Long-Term Care — Home Care and Nursing Homes, supporting workers and leading successful contract negotiations. Yvonne has been with 1199 for 49 years, including 35 years on staff. She started as a dietary worker at New Rochelle Hospital in 1973, and was elected 1199 delegate in 1986, then Vice President and Executive Vice President, first at New York Presbyterian then in Albany, the Upper and Lower Hudson Valley, Westchester and the five boroughs of New York as well as New Jersey, and has worked across almost every area of our union.

As Senior EVP of the Downstate Health System, Veronica leads our New York based staff, delegates, and members in taking on the major employer and political fights of today.  For 25 years, Veronica has played a pivotal role in numerous groundbreaking victories for our Union including winning a $15 minimum wage for workers in Massachusetts and NYU workers’ re-entry into the League of Voluntary Hospitals with record wage increases, pensions, and benefits.
